2,500 young people! 5 whole days camping! 4 nights in cosy tents! Heaps of yummy food! What a scene for our 7 young people from SBYG who took on, and survived, the amazing challenge of Easter Camp ’21 at Spencer Park.
We had our own marquee which we converted into our “happy place” for the weekend, complete with signage, fairy lights, couches, small fridge and microwave. A great place for us all to relax, enjoy hot drinks and listen to great Christian music (thanks, Hanan).
A huge blessing was to have Christine, Emma and Marcus (our YGPs…Youth Group Parents) come and share their valuable time with us over the 5 days. They were amazing and looked after us so well. We couldn’t have done it without you and we are so grateful for your enthusiastic support!
Each morning and evening we all gathered with the other 2,500 people in the Big Top. Seymour (See More), our mascot, (lit with fairy lights and attached to a broom kindly lent to us by Greg) was our beacon in the space, ensuring that no one got lost. We heard from some inspiring speakers, sang very moving (and loud) songs, danced to the (heavy – for Robyn) beat and were captivated by the antics of the three on–stage MCs. After each Big Top session we gathered back in our own marquee to reflect, discuss and pray together. What a privilege to spend time with a wonderful group of young people.
Highlights from our group included…Toby – Big Top sessions; Hugh – catching up with friends, Big Top sessions and the rides; Florence – marquee life and monopoly; Theo – Big Top speakers, the rides and pancake breakfasts! Hanan – Big Top sessions and the Easter music on Easter Day!
YGP Christine – seeing the joy in the group as they gathered around their mascot, Seymour, and headed off into the big top for worship and to listen to a speaker’s message. How cool is it that our young people have so much Christian music and messages available to them.
YGP Emma – energetic worship, positive attitudes, willingness to get involved and help out from our young people.
As a group we’d like to sincerely thank everyone in the parish who supported us in so many ways! Thank you for supporting our fundraising Quiz Night, for your prayers and for your positive encouragement of our young people. They were wonderful representatives of St Barnabas and I was very proud of them.
